Lakeshore Technical College has a large campus and two satellite buildings along the western edge of Lake Michigan.
With the upcoming expansion of their nursing building, college administrators wanted to tackle the chronic wayfinding issues that had plagued the campus for years. Avia performed a comprehensive site assessment to identify their navigation shortcomings. We recommended several options to improve a disjointed navigation system and confusing building nomenclature. A complete room renumbering structure was developed to be more intuitive. Prominent exterior and interior sign types were designed to reduce visual clutter and large vertical panels highlight key destinations. Utility rooms and offices signs are less conspicuous and classroom signs featured prominent visual features. Key destination guides separated the amenities (restrooms, elevators, etc.), making it easier for someone to find the right information quickly. Avia was contracted to help the college assemble a fabrication RFP and an installation plan that matched their allotted budget.
